SkySports pundit Jamie Carragher has singled out new Manchester United signing Ander Herrera for praise after his role in pre-season.
The £30 million midfielder has made an almost seamless transition to life as a Red Devil in their pre-season so far, playing a key role in United winning five games out of five.
Herrera was substituted for late goalscorer Jesse Lingard in the 3-1 win over Liverpool, but did enough to impress Carragher.
The former Liverpool defender pointed out via Twitter, that while it is 'only' pre-season, there are defensive problems for Brendan Rodgers to address.
Just watched the Lfc v Man Utd game still defensive issues for Lfc. Like the look of Herrera from what I've seen. It's only pre season!— Jamie Carragher (@Carra23) August 5, 2014
Part of the problem for Liverpool, is the multitude of options available in central defence. Does Brendan Rodgers know his two first choice picks out of the six of Daniel Agger, Martin Skrtel, Mamadou Sakho, Dejan Lovren, Kolo Toure and Sebastian Coates.
The club are also chasing two new full-backs in Alberto Moreno, and Manquillo, the latter of which will be a back-up for Glen Johnson.
There is a good chance one of the six centre-backs will be moved on before deadline day which will make selection easier, but the new unit, once settled on will take time to gel - and there are still fans far from convinced about Simon Mignolet.
Brendan Rodgers likes his teams to be organised and there is reason to suggest he will solve the condundrum based on his impressive track record, but with only a fortnight to go until the Premier League season begins, it's decision time.
