Jack Rodwell has completed a move from Premier League champions Manchester City to Sunderland.

Sunderland will be praying that Rodwell's injury ridden past is well behind him after signing the talented midfielder from City for £10 million earlier today.

The 23-year-old will be hoping to reignite his career in the red and white stripes of Sunderland, and has signed a five-year deal that will keep him with the Black Cats until at least 2019.

Despite having made four signings already Sunderland manager Gus Poyet revealed his frustration last week at their lack of movement in the transfer market. So the Uruguayan will be delighted to get this deal done at dusted.

As relieved as Poyet will be, it will certainly be a much bigger relief for the young Englishman as he looks to get his promising career back on track after two torrid years at the Etihad.

City paid Everton £12 million for Rodwell is 2012 and he put pen to paper on a five year deal at the club. However countless injuries and failure to break into first team resulted in him making only 16 Premier League appearances in two seasons for City.

Rodwell has three international appearances to his name, and should he regain his good form and stay injury free he is bound to increase that number.

Sunderland uploaded a number of photos onto their official Twitter account, including the one below of Rodwell taking a cheeky 'selfie' in front of a picture of a packed-out Stadium of Light.
