Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels will soon be returning to training following his extended summer break.
The newly-crowned World Cup winner has been the subject of intense media speculation for some time now, which is no surprise given he is one of the best central defenders in Europe.
And seemingly in a playful mood on Tuesday, the 25-year-old took to Twitter to post a message that could be taken in a whole host of ways.
"The last days of my holiday," Hummels wrote, "soon I then (supposedly) have something exciting to report."
The fact that the 'supposedly' was accompanied by a wink face emoticon suggested Hummels was well aware of the reports doing the rounds this summer.
But should fans of reported suitors Manchester United start to get excited? Or should that be supporters of Arsenal, given the more recent stories linking the centre-back with switch to the Emirates?
Then again, Hummels could simply have been referencing the speculation that he will be named Dortmund's new captain for the upcoming campaign.
After all, he took to Twitter later on the same day to answer questions, one of which was whether or not he would be at Dortmund's opening game of the season.
"I can agree with that," he replied, again with that emoticon.
But with the transfer window open for some time yet, there is no guarantee he will not move on to pastures new once Jurgen Klopp's side has already started their new campaign.
In short there is no telling what Hummels was referring to, only that it seems he is fully aware of the ongoing claims and counter-claims.
United are desperate for a defender of the German's quality; Arsenal less so. But while Louis van Gaal would surely love to build his new 3-5-2 formation around the imposing world champion, the simple fact is that with a contract until the summer of 2017, it would be arguably the most surprising move of the summer if United secure his signing.
Die letzten Tage meines Urlaubs laufen, bald hab ich dann wieder (vermeintlich ;) ) Spannendes zu berichten...— Mats Hummels (@matshummels) August 5, 2014
