I asked Cellino about Delort recently. He said no chance, wasn't someone he wanted. But we'll see. #lufc— Phil Hay (@PhilHayYEP) August 3, 2014
According to French news outlet Made In Foot, Leeds United had reportedly reached an agreement with Tours over the transfer for prolific goalscorer Andy Delort. Nevertheless, the rumour was quashed hours later when Phil Hay - Sports Writer for the Yorkshire Evening Post - revealed a conversation he had with Cellino indicating the Italian had no ambition in signing the French striker.
Delort, who scored 24 goals in 36 appearances last season, has come to the attention of a host of clubs in Europe, including Championship duo Charlton Athletic and Brentford.
The 22-year-old, who finished as the top scorer in Ligue 2, is believed to be ready to move on this summer despite Tours fighting to retain his signature and the player is said to be currently mulling over his options.
Leeds, who lost top goalscorer Ross McCormack to Fulham last month, are said to be in the market for a striker to compliment the likes of Doukara, Morison and Poleon and supporters were keen on the idea of signing the French striker, however, it seems that Cellino is looking elsewhere.
With less than a week until the new season kicks off, supporters of all clubs will now be getting anxious that their club gets all the final pieces of the jigsaw in place in order to achieve their set goals for the upcoming season, and Leeds fans are no different.
Although Doukara has turned heads since his arrival from Catania last month, the weight of expectation to replace McCormack's 28 goals is a little unfair on the striker in his first season in the Championship and the fans have voiced their hope at landing someone else to compliment the powerful striker.
Cellino, who has been praised by supporters for his work in the transfer market so far, will undoubtedly have a striker high on his priority list as he looks for new faces to join up with his Leeds United side before the window shuts at the beginning of next month.
