Dutch international suggests £31.8m City target is on the move

Manchester City appear ever closer to finalising a deal for Eliaquim Mangala after it was suggested he had played his last game for Porto.

New FC Porto defender Bruno Martins Indi has been speaking about taking over from Eliaquim Mangala in the heart of the Portuguese side’s defence.

The Netherlands international moved to the Primeira Liga side this summer, amid rumours that Mangala was set for a transfer to Manchester City.

Following a reported leaked video of Mangala’s premature City unveiling, and claims that the French international is finally set to complete a move to the Etihad this week, it seems Martins Indi has big shoes to fill in Portugal. But that does not appear to concern him.

In an interview with Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Martins Indi said, “I’m ready to play. Porto is a club that always wins title and competes in the Champions League.

“There is no extra pressure to be playing in place of Mangala. I’m me. He did well at the club.”

Goal reported early on Monday morning that the Frenchman was set to finalise a move to City this week, for £31.8million.

It is a considerable outlay for a young defender. But anyone who has seen Mangala play will know he could become one of the best centre-backs in Europe and looks set to form a highly-effective partnership with Vincent Kompany.

And as if the latest reports were not enough to suggest that City are finally about to get their man, Martins Indi seems to have revealed that Mangala has played his last match for Porto.
