Tottenham latest, club confident on Vertonghen and Schneiderlin, close in on Musacchio

A selection of the latest transfer news involving Tottenham Hotspur this Monday evening.

Tottenham are confident that Jan Vertonghen will sign a new long-term contract with the club according to the Daily Mail.

There has been speculation suggesting that Vertonghen has attracted interest from Barcelona this summer, but there have been indications that the Belgian is happy at White Hart Lane.

Spurs are closing in on another defender in the form of Mateo Musacchio from Villarreal.

The Daily Telegraph reports that a deal could be worth around £17 million for the 23-year-old, and is said to be Head Coach Mauricio Pochettino's first-choice defensive partner for Jan Vertonghen.

Musacchio can also play at right-back as well at the heart of the defence, and is set to become the club's fourth summer signing.

Younes Kaboul could be departing the club for Lazio according to the London Evening Standard, and are also reporting that Michael Dawson is likely to stay and fight for his place despite strong interest from Hull City.

Tottenham's pursuit of Morgan Schneiderlin may carry on until the season gets underway in under two weeks time according to the Evening Standard.

Schneiderlin has made it clear he wants to move to White Hart Lane and Tottenham are still confident of signing the French midfielder, but for less than the mooted £27 million valuation that Saints apparently value the midfielder at.

The report also says that any interest in striker Jay Rodriguez could be postponed until January.
