Todd Kane, 20, posted an picture on Instagram indicating that he was on the road to recovery following an injury he picked up in Chelsea's first pre-season match away at Wycombe Wanderers.
The right-back, who spent the whole of last season on loan at Blackburn Rovers, is one of the players at the West London club that was expected to leave this summer, either on another loan or on a permanent deal, as first team chances at Stamford Bridge look an unrealistic possibility for the young defender.
Last summer, after signing for Blackburn Rovers on another loan deal, the youngster indicated he was preparing for life away from Chelsea and openly admitted that he would move to Blackburn Rovers permanently, stating: ''I certainly wouldn't rule out joining Blackburn, it's a fantastic club.
''There were talks last year , but Chelsea wanted me to stay at Stamford Bridge and I signed a new contract that keeps me there until 2016.
''I really like Blackburn, I'm pleased to come back and I'm very grateful they wanted me back. I'd consider it if Blackburn came in for me, but right now I'm a Chelsea player and my main priority is to try and establish myself at Stamford Bridge before I think about anything else.
''Blackburn have given me a fantastic opportunity, though, and who knows what might happen in the future.''
Nevertheless, after joining back up with Chelsea following a failed promotion push with Rovers, the talk over the youngster's future has been surprisingly quiet.
A start against Wycombe, despite ending in an injury, is encouraging for the England youth international, but he will be now be looking for assurances over his long-term future as he heads into his penultimate year on his contract.
