Chelsea transfer news: Joao Miranda, Sami Khedira and loan latest

All the latest Chelsea transfer news and rumours including Jose Mourinho leading a solo race for Real Madrid star.

Chelsea's hopes of adding more quality to their playing roster this summer will have been dashed by the news from Spain that Joao Miranda has effectively rejected the chance to join his former team-mates Filipe Luis and Diego Costa at Chelsea, as the centre back "is staying with Atletico Madrid".

Miranda had been the subject of a €25 million bid from Chelsea but that fee was understood to have been seen as too low by the Atleti hierarchy and, while the Blues were believed to have returned with a more sizable fee and though the player "seriously considered a move", the 29-year-old defender will remain at Vicente Calderon for the foreseeable future.

Miranda also spurred overtures from Manchester United and Barcelona.

Chelsea also faced competition in the race to sign seemingly available defensive midfielder Sami Khedira, as the World Cup winner was also wanted by Bayern Munich and Arsenal.

The Bundesliga giants, though, claimed last week that they were not interested in the player while the Gunners may be moving on to other, cheaper, targets. This leaves Chelsea with a free run at the Los Blancos athlete. According to this report, a decision will be made in the coming weeks.

The temporary deal that should have seen Christian Atsu join Everton has "stalled".

The upper brass at Stamford Bridge are confident the player can develop under Roberto Martinez at Goodison Park but want "assurances" he will be granted regular football - something the Toffees perhaps cannot deliver at this stage.

And finally, Oriol Romeu has joined Stuttgart for the duration of the upcoming season.
