Ricardo Carvalho would prefer to see legendary midfielder in Chelsea blue rather than City sky blue.
A Chelsea mainstay for 13 years, Frank Lampard secured legendary status by virtue of 211 club-level goals and for playing his part in helping the West London club win a hat-trick of Premier League crowns, four FA Cup titles, a Champions League trophy and a Europa League winners medal.
Earlier this summer the football veteran, now 36, signed for New York City FC on a two-year deal but, within a fortnight, was loaned out to Manchester City - a rival of Chelsea's - on a half-season basis.
Reacting to the switch, a former team-mate of Lampard's at Chelsea, Ricardo Carvalho, said: "I'm a supporter of Chelsea, I like Chelsea - they're strong. Of course I would prefer to see him in a Chelsea shirt rather than a City shirt but you have to respect his decision."
He reiterated: "He's a great friend of mine and a great person as well. I will wait and see how he does but like I said, I'd prefer to see him back at Chelsea rather than City."
Legendary centre back Carvalho, also 36, spent six seasons at Stamford Bridge and drew comparisons to Franco Baresi due to his intelligent play.
He now represents AS Monaco.
