What a wonderful and unexpected pre-season it has been for Manchester United and their fans so far.
such has been Louis van Gaal's impact since replacing former manager David Moyes, that not only have United overcome LA Galaxy, Roma, Inter Milan and now Real Madrid, but perennial criticism-magnet Ashley Young has turned into an apparent world-beater.
Following his impressive strikes against Galaxy, Young scored two more against Real to help United to a 3-1 victory, with Javier Hernandez netting his side's other goal and Gareth Bale replying for the Spaniards.
Pre-season is a time for players to make their case for inclusion once the real business kicks off. And few have grabbed their opportunity as fully as Young, playing in an unfamiliar but possibly career-transforming wing-back position.
Young's work-rate, final ball and goal threat all looked good against the La Liga side, and after the match we took to Twitter to see what United fans thought of his performance. Below you can read a selection of what we found:
