VIDEO: Yaya Sanogo hits four goals during Arsenal rout

Yaya Sanogo hit four goals during Arsenal’s 5-1 victory over Benfica.

Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo had an afternoon to remember as he hit four goals during his team’s 5-1 thrashing of Portuguese champions Benfica.

The 21-year-old striker was selected to lead the line for Arsene Wenger’s men during their opening game of the Emirates Cup, and the French boss couldn’t have wished for more from his player.

In a quiet opening, Welsh international Aaron Ramsey burst into space midway through the first half before teeing up Sanogo with a wonderful low cross which the striker expertly flicked in.

It was Sanogo’s first goal in an Arsenal shirt since joining from Auxerre in the summer of 2013, and it seemed to give the striker a huge boost in confidence as he started to run riot.

After Joel Campbell made it 2-0, the French U21 international notched two more in quick succession just before the half-time interval as the hosts left the pitch at the halfway stage 4-0 up.

If that wasn’t enough, Sanogo then added his fourth and the Gunners' fifth five minutes after half-time after Aaron Ramsey’s shot was spilled into his path.

After the game, boss Arsene Wenger spoke about Sanogo’s improvement and harped back to the striker’s frightening goalscoring record before his long-term injury at Auxerre - believing last season's blank was more of a mental issue.

When pressed on the similarities with Emmanuel Adebayor, Wenger felt that his striker has similar strengths and technical skills which could make him a top Premier League marksman for years to come.
