Chelsea winger Eden Hazard returned to action on Sunday as the Blues crashed to a disappointing 3-0 defeat against Werder Bremen.
Despite the result, it was a moment to celebrate for the Stamford Bridge faithful as Thibait Courtois made his debut appearance and Eden Hazard returned to action in Chelsea colours.
The Belgian winger’s future was cast into doubt before the World Cup amid speculation of a rift between the player and boss Mourinho as well as Paris Saint-Germain’s renowned interest.
The problem, thought to be the 23-year-old’s lack of defensive discipline, was soon resolved yet the interest in the player remained.
French giants PSG have been heavily linked with the player for much of the past year and the Paris press on numerous occasions hinted that a big-money deal between the clubs could happen.
As it was, a headline-making transaction between the two clubs was agreed before the World Cup, though rather fortunately for Chelsea supporters, it was defender David Luiz and not Hazard who left for the French capital in a deal worth a reported £50million.
Since the former Lille man returned to training following his extended break, it has been a case of training hard and getting match fit ahead of the Premier League’s opening weekend in two weeks’ time.
Hazard will want to improve on last season’s breakout campaign where he marked his authority in English football with 14 goals and seven assists in 32 Premier League starts.
Will Eden Hazard take his game to another level this season?
