Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina’s future is still in doubt after yet more speculation arises over his possible playing destination next season.
Last year, the Spanish shot-stopper found himself out of favour at Anfield and moved to reunite with former boss Rafa Benitez at Napoli on a season-long loan deal.
Many had speculated whether his loan move at Naples would become permanent, yet it appears his high wages have caused somewhat of a stumbling block for the Serie A outfit.
Since then, the 31-year-old has returned to the Reds and stated his desire to get back into shape in order to stay with the Merseysiders for the forthcoming season.
Despite Reina’s newfound ambition, however, both Napoli and Bayern Munich still harbour hopes of signing him this summer and according to Sky Sports Italia, Serie A giants AC Milan have joined them in the race for his signature.
“Pepe Reina is currently owned by Liverpool, but his future could be at Bayern Munich, who is strongly interested. Guardiola appears to have his mind on acquiring him in September, but there are two Italian clubs also in the picture. Napoli is still a possibility while the new suitor is AC Milan.” The report claims.
AC Milan are said to be keen on signing a new long-term goalkeeper as long-standing number one Christian Abbiati has just turned 37 and is coming to the end of his career.
Reina still has two years remaining on his contract, therefore should the Rossoneri push forward for his signature they will be expected to put in a convincing offer.
