New Tottenham signing Eric Dier says he cannot wait to get started.
Eric Dier is officially a Tottenham Hotspur player, and spent Sunday evening sending messages to supporters of his old and new clubs.
The bargain £4 million signing from Sporting Lisbon wrote on his Instagram page: "Thank you for all the messages, delighted to have signed for Tottenham and to have the chance to play in the premier league, looking forward to putting this shirt on! #coys"
Dier's message to Sporting supporters was accompanied by a photo of him in far younger days.
"I want to thank Sporting for everything he gave me, was proud to represent the club during these 12 years. I want to thank all the staff, my colleagues, coaches and especially the fans. I'll always be rooting for Sporting and wish the best for this season."
There were mixed responses from Sporting supporters, some thankful for the respect, others criticising his decision to leave the club just one year after breaking into the first team.
That chapter is now firmly behind Dier though, and he will now knuckle down with the goal of breaking into the Tottenham first team.
With Villareal defender Mateo Mussachio rumoured to be incoming, it will not be easy, but Spurs have bought a long-term project with Dier rather than an instant fix, and for the price they paid, it could be a very shrewd deal.
