Inter player ratings v Roma - Ex-Manchester United captain inspirational

Inter made use of goals from Nemanja Vidic and Yuto Nagatomo to deal Serie A rivals Roma a 2-0 defeat in Philadelphia on Saturday.

Samir Handanovic 6/10 - Not terribly bothered for much of his outing. Fumbled a stinging Radja Nainggolan drive from distance, but was otherwise solid when called upon.

Marco Andreolli 6.5/10 - Quietly dealt rather well with the threat of Adem Ljajic. Only truly looked troubled when Urby Emanuelson got forward on the overlap to force the issue for Roma.

Nemanja Vidic 7.5/10 - A towering presence at the heart of the Inter defence. Scored his first Nerazzurri goal with a trademark header and looks to be adapting well to Walter Mazzarri’s three-man back line.

Juan Jesus 6/10 - Forced into some awkward positions by Juan Iturbe, but chose his battles with a few smart tactical fouls to hold the Argentine at bay.

Yuto Nagatomo 7/10 - Appeared comfortable on the right despite playing outside of his natural position. Took his goal well, smashing in off the underside of the bar after gathering a deflected cross at the back post.

Jonathan 6/10 - Wasn’t terribly effective as a central midfielder, unsurprising given his pedigree as a wing-back. Battled away, but a bit wasteful with his passing.

Yann M’Vila 7/10 - Combative, as to be expected. Went in with several crunching tackles and pressed the Roma midfield hard for 64 minutes.

Zdravko Kuzmanovic 6.5/10 - Most effective when finding space in the channels. Had a fierce effort from distance beaten away by Lukasz Skorupski early on.

Dodo 6.5/10 - Bombed forward with regularity against his soon-to-not-be parent club. Stifled at times by Alessandro Florenzi, but delivered a lovely free-kick to assist Vidic on the opener.

Ruben Botta 5.5/10 - Isolated and struggled to have any real impact on the game. Not the best performance from a player with something to prove.

Mauro Icardi 6/10 - A bit starved for service. Had a few opportunities to attack crosses, but couldn’t apply the proper finish. Headed directly at Skorupski from six yards out.

Diego Laxalt (64' for Botta) 6/10 - Linked midfield and attack better than Botta, but didn’t have a ton of chances to show his quality.

Fredy Guarin (64' for Kuzmanovic) 6.5/10 - Lively after coming on. Put in a few good challenges and created a chance for himself with a neat bit of skill.

Danilo D’Ambrosio (64' for Dodo) 6.5/10 - Provided the tantalising cross that led to Nagatomo’s goal. Energetic out wide.

Mateo Kovacic (64' for M’Vila) 6/10 - Facilitated play at the base of the Inter midfield. Provided a few threatening long balls. Solid, if unspectacular.

Juan Pablo Carrizo (64' for Handanovic) 6.5/10 - Stood tall to knock away a scorching effort from Tonny Sanabria late on.

Andrea Ranocchia (76' for Andreolli) 6/10 - Helped Inter stay solid in the final quarter-hour.

Ibrahima Mbaye (76' for Nagatomo) 6/10 - A willing runner. Still faces an uncertain future at Inter.

Federico Bonazzoli (81' for Icardi) 6/10 - Gave Icardi a rest for the final 10 minutes with Roma chasing the game.
