Former Arsenal player Nacer Barazite scored a hat-trick for new club Utrecht as the Dutch side romped to a 7-1 pre-season victory on Saturday.
Despite being on Arsenal’s books from 2007 to 2011, the forward never made a competitive appearance for the Gunners first-team, leaving after four years to play for Austria Vienna.
It was there where he began to fulfil his potential, scoring 24 goals in 55 games. But he would later spend a disappointing two years at French club Monaco netting once and featuring on only 12 occasions.
But it appears things could be about to take a turn for the better following his move to Utrecht this summer.
Now 24, Barazite scored three of his side’s seven goals in their victory over Sparta Nijkerk on Saturday, and it will be interesting to see how he does in his homeland next season and beyond.
He may not have made it at Arsenal, but at times in his career he has showed his true potential. And he could not have hoped for a better start to life at his new club.
