Thibaut Courtois has wasted no time in showing the Chelsea fans just how good a goalkeeper he is.
The Belgian stopper made his first appearance for the club against Werder Bremen today and was in the thick of the action right from the start.
Courtois pulled off a stunning save to keep the scores at 0-0, which can be seen in the video above.
The 22-year-old managed to deny former Chelsea player Franco di Santo, by diving down low to his right to parry his close range header to safety.
It was an incredible save, but one which he has become accustomed to making over the past few season – where he has established himself as one of the finest goalkeepers in world football.
Courtois has spent the last three years on loan at Atletico Madrid and, despite his tender years, he has proven himself a match for the very best.
He was a mainstay in the side as they have enjoyed one of the most successful periods they have ever had – as Atleti broke-up the Real Madrid and Barcelona duopoly of La Liga last season, by winning the title.
Diego Simeone’s side also reached the final of the Champions League and Courtois now returns to Stamford Bridge as a player who has experienced football right at the highest level.
His task to break into the first-team at Chelsea is made tough, as Jose Mourinho already has Petr Cech at the club.
Cech has become a Chelsea legend after his performances over a sustained period of time. But he may be usurped by Courtois this year, as he looks to be one of the best young players in the world.
Mourinho said that the decision to keep Courtois at the club this season was a ‘logical’ one and, if he keeps making saves like this throughout the rest of the Blues’ pre-season, then selecting him as their number one between the sticks will be an easy choice to make too.
