Barcelona fans want new defender over €38m United target

Barcelona fans have voted in favour of purchasing a new defender rather than €38million Manchester United target Juan Cuadrado.

Colombian ace Juan Cuadrado has long been linked with a move away from Fiorentina, with Barcelona and Manchester United reportedly the most likely to sign him.

The Red Devils under new boss Louis Van Gaal are set to play a new counter-attacking wing-back formation this season following its success during the pre-season campaign.

Cuadrado, renowned to have pace and dribbling ability in abundance, is familiar with the wing-back role and his style in play could be a good fit at Old Trafford.

The 26-year-old, however, is reportedly keen to move to La Liga giants Barcelona this summer and may find the Catalan’s influx of South Americans a more attractive proposition.

According to a fresh poll created by Spanish publication Diario Sport, results suggest that the feeling however may not be mutual.

Taken from a section of the Nou Camp supporters, 76% of those that participated would prefer to see the club bring in another centre-back rather than splash out on the €38 million-rated Colombian ace.

Barcelona have already brought in Jeremy Mathieu from fellow Spanish side Valencia this summer though it appears PSG centre-back Thiago Silva is the one which most supporters really desire.

With club politics and presidential reputations built on decisions which please the supporters, the Nou Camp faithful’s rather subdued reaction at the prospect of signing Cuadrado could indeed benefit the Red Devils in the pursuit to land the star.

In 32 Serie A appearances for Fiorentina last season, the former Udinese man netted 11 goals and helped the club qualify for next season’s Europa League competition.
