Arsene Wenger has been speaking about the rumours linking the German international with a possible move to Arsenal.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been answering questions regarding the club’s alleged interest in Sami Khedira.
The Real Madrid midfielder has been strongly tipped to swap the Bernabeu for the Emirates this summer, but speaking after Arsenal’s 5-1 win against Benfica on Saturday, Wenger remained coy on the subject.
In an interview later published on Arsenal’s official website, the Frenchman was asked if he has made an offer for the German international.
“No,” he replied, before being a little more cryptic when asked if he had enquired about the player.
“What is ‘enquire’ for you?” Wenger asked, hinting that there may indeed be some level of interest, before concluding by answering a question on whether Khedira was available this summer.
“I don’t know,” he said. “If I read the newspapers, he is available.”
It was another master-class in saying everything and nothing all at once, from a manager who has already pulled off some outstanding transfer business this summer.
It was his younger stars who impressed most against Benfica, most notably Yaya Sanogo, Joel Campbell and Hector Bellerin.
But considering the competitions Arsenal will be involved in – and their hopes for those competitions – it would not be a surprise if Wenger moved for a defensive midfielder before the transfer window closes; if the right one is available that is.
