Arsenal failed to win the 2014 Emirates Cup on Sunday, as they went down 1-0 to AS Monaco.
Arsene Wenger’s side needed just a draw from their match against the Ligue 1 giants at the Emirates Stadium to win the tournament for the first time since 2010.
However, the Gunners slipped up as Colombia international striker Radamel Falcao headed home Joao Moutinho’s free kick in the first half for the only goal of the match.
It was not all doom and gloom for midfielder Aaron Ramsey, though. Although the Wales international was disappointed with his side’s failure to win the Emirates Cup, he was delighted to have started the match with the club’s star summer signing Alexis Sanchez.
The 23-year-old former Cardiff City star took to social networking site Twitter to make the following post after the encounter:
Sanchez, who joined Arsenal from Barcelona last month for a reported transfer fee of £30 million, made his first start for his new team on Sunday.
The Chile international did not have the best of times at the Emirates, but he did demonstrate his brilliance on many occasions and gave the Arsenal fans a taste of what’s to come from him once the new season gets underway.
As for Ramsey, he played some good passes and looked comfortable in midfield, but like Sanchez, he too can do more. And he will once he gets into the groove of things.
