Sam Allardyce says his Hammers side needs 'more firepower' after beating Schalke on penalties in pre-season.
West Ham won their Schalke Cup opener 7-6 in the shootout - but only after a 0-0 draw.
That inability to score goals troubled Allardyce, much as it did throughout the course of last season.
"We need more firepower, we need to try and find somebody that will score more goals for us," he told Quest TV.
"We’re going to try and bring in one more new player. We also have Enner Valencia but he only started training today.
"There will probably be one more player and that will be us finished with our budget."
Allardyce also revealed that his squad did not practice penalties ahead of the game and only found out about the possibility of penalties the day before the match.
“No we didn’t [practice]," he said. "We arrived here yesterday and found out that it would be penalties after a draw. We were happy not practicising. Thankfully, we had a better nerve than Schalke today.
"For us, playing away from home in Europe was about containing the opposition. From that point of view, we did well.
"We could have used the ball a bit better but the lads have had a fantastic workout. We’ve seen some of our very young players play, as well."
