Remy Cabella was hot property prior to his switch from Montpellier to Newcastle United last month.
The French attacking midfielder was linked with a number of clubs, but it was long-term admirers Newcastle who ultimately signed him on a six-year deal.
It was an impressive piece of business from Alan Pardew, in a summer when he is making such things a habit. Indeed the Magpies boss has added real quality to his squad in recent weeks, most notably in the form of Cabella, Daryl Janmaat and Siem de Jong.
And so it was with real excitement that Newcastle fans would have prepared to watch Cabella's debut in a pre-season friendly against Malaga on Saturday afternoon.
Newcastle are currently taking part in the Schalke 04 Cup, along with the hosts, Malaga and West Ham United. But while Cabella started the game against the Spaniards, things did not go quite according to plan, with Malaga winning 3-1; Gabriel Obertan netting a consolation after the La Liga side had gone 3-0 up.
After the match, we took to Twitter to see what Newcastle fans made of Cabella's performance, and you can read a selection of what we found below:
@SamJulius1 Hopefully not signs of what's to come. Good Obertan goal (lol) but Cabella has been anonymous— Leif. (@LeifyWild) August 2, 2014
Not impressing with Remy Cabella s debut - Don't understand why #nufc were keen on him last six months— Grant (@Grant_Richy) August 2, 2014
Obertan has done more than Cabella already...— Adam. (@Adam_NUFC98) August 2, 2014

So we lost 3-1 second half was better than the first and surprisingly Obertan looked good. Cabella can only improve— NUFC (@NufcNufc1) August 2, 2014
