Manchester United transfer news: Defender latest; £80m man won't rule out United return

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Cristiano Ronaldo has not ruled out the possibility of returning to Manchester United in the future.

The Real Madrid forward has been speaking as his side prepare to face Louis van Gaal’s men in a pre-season friendly this weekend.

And in quotes published in the Manchester Evening News, the Portuguese international responded with the following when asked if a return to Old Trafford could ever happen.

“Of course, it was one of my favourite clubs.

“I was 18 years old, I win everything there. The people treat me like a god there so I appreciate it and in the future nobody knows.”

In other news, the Express reports that Barcelona are firm favourites to sign reported United target Juan Cuadrado.

The Fiorentina winger is hot property and it is being claimed in Spain that the Catalan club is closing in on his signature.

And finally, the Guardian reports that United could still move for Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen this month, despite the defender currently suffering a minor hamstring injury.

Van Gaal needs one if not two quality centre-backs ahead of the new campaign and Vermaelen would fit the bill, his versatility also a potential bonus.
