Manchester United transfer latest: Arturo Vidal to fly 7,000 miles in just over 24 hours

Manchester United's pursuit of signing Arturo Vidal looks like being put on hold.

For all the false dawns of supposed medical requests and bids which are yet to materialise, there is still not any clear cut evidence that Manchester United have submitted an offer for Arturo Vidal.

New manager Louis van Gaal is cutting a relaxed figure in the transfer market, at odds to the desires of supporters.

Arturo Vidal is reported to be a top target, but barring any substantial developments over the course of Saturday, then there is a good chance the potential transfer of the Chilean will be put on hold.

This is because Vidal is scheduled to fly out from Turin to Jakarta, Indonesia, with the rest of the Juventus squad on Sunday, report TuttoJuve, as part of the club's Asia Pacific tour which will also see them visit Australia.

While Vidal is across on the other side of the world, strengthening his rapport with the global Juventus fanbase, it will be impossible for United to close a transfer for him, even if, at best, there is a provisional agreement.

The Serie A season does not begin until August 30, and their final game of the tour is on August 16 in Singapore.

Vidal will therefore be in the southern hemisphere for over two weeks, and while not impossible to do a deal, it is logistically harder to push forward.

By the time Juventus play the last game of their tour, it will be the Premier League's opening day of the season, and the chance to get Vidal in early has already passed the Red Devils by.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger gave inadvertent hope earlier today, when he said he expected clubs to be active once the season begins.

"I think the second half of August, the 15th to 30th, will be busy again. Everyone takes a breather at the moment because everyone checks in their preparation games what they still need."

Barring a sudden breakthrough in the Vidal pursuit on Saturday, a day on which Van Gaal is preparing his side to face Real Madrid, United may just have to wait now until late August if they are to get the man who can transform their midfield.
