Hannover rule out move for Chelsea's Marko Marin

While Chelsea's Marko Marin looks set to leave the club this summer, Hannover 96 won't be the German midfielder's destination.

Hannover 96 have denied that Chelsea’s Marko Marin is a target, after reports surfaced late last month that the Bundesliga outfit were preparing a bid for the out-of-favour winger.

Marin is expected to leave Chelsea this summer following two frustrating seasons at Stamford Bridge, with the club’s surplus of riches in midfield deeming him expendable.

Hannover general manager Dirk Dufner, however, has moved to distance his side from the German international, who remains under contract with the Blues until 2017, despite their desire to make several ‘attack-minded’ signings before the start of the season.

"We have been looking to sign attack-minded players this summer and we are out to sign further players," he told kicker-Sportmagazin. "But we have no interest in Marko Marin, and we will not pick up an interest in him."

A member of the 2010 World Cup squad, Marin was signed from Werder Bremen in the summer of 2012 for around £6.5 million, his arrival greeted with high expectations for his first Premier League season.

However, the Serbian-born attacker would make just six league appearance during his debut campaign, before being shipped out to Sevilla on season-long loan for 2013-14 after the arrival of Jose Mourinho, where he again failed to perform to the levels expected.

At 25, Marin still possesses a great deal of potential but it appears as though neither Chelsea nor Hannover will be where he rediscovers it, with Eintracht Frankfurt and Besiktas two other possible suitors who have been mentioned in recent weeks.

Whether the 16-times capped international was ever given a fair crack at the Premier League is open for debate but, at this point, a return to the Bundesliga would seem to be the most feasible destination, where he can see regular minutes and attempt to re-ignite his once-promising career.
