Carl Jenkinson joined Arsenal from Charlton Athletic in the summer of 2011 and was said to have a bright future at the Emirates Stadium, but apparently manager Arsene Wenger does not believe that the right-back is ready to make the step-up yet.
Having signed two new right-backs in France international Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle United and teenager Calum Chambers from Southampton this summer, Wenger has allowed the defender to join West Ham United on loan for the 2014-15 season.
At Boleyn Ground, the 22-year-old England international will have a better chance of playing regular football, and under manager Sam Allardyce he is likely to add more facets to his game as well.
Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey certainly hopes that Jenkinson does that and succeeds during his season-long spell away from the Emirates.
The Wales international took to social networking site Twitter to post the following message:
All the best this season with your loan move, Jenko!— Aaron Ramsey (@aaronramsey) August 1, 2014
Jenkinson has the potential to one day develop into a very good player, but this season could prove to be key in regard to a future at Arsenal.
Should the Englishman not improve and impress at West Ham this campaign, then Wenger could well feel no need to retain his services beyond next summer given the options he has in his squad in that position at the moment.
How will Carl Jenkinson fare at West Ham United?
