Predicted Liverpool XI for next season - Lovren to slot straight in?

Here's the potential Liverpool team for next season based on current players and possible signings.

Brendan Rodgers has added positively so far in the transfer market with further signings to come ahead of the first Premier League game against Southampton.

There has been a legitimate cause for concern at Anfield following the departure of Luis Suarez but Rodgers has used the cash generated from his sale well, to produce an efficient and strong squad.

We’ve had a go at naming Liverpool’s team for the new season.

GK – Simon Mignolet

The Belgian is the club’s number one and that’s unlikely to change. He starts.

RB – Jon Flanagan

Flanagan deserves the chance to start in the defence following his performances last season.

CB – Martin Skrtel

Skrtel provides leadership in the back four and will do the basics of defending effectively when the side is under real pressure.

CB – Dejan Lovren

Lovren is one of Liverpool’s summer captures from Southampton and he’s a very good option to have on the left hand side of central defence.

LB – Alberto Moreno

Reports this morning have suggested that Liverpool’s chief executive Ian Ayre has flown to Spain to get a deal done for Moreno. If he’s a Reds player, he starts.

RM – Raheem Sterling

Sterling will try and utilise his pace and skill on the ball in a variety of different situations. He’s a real threat on the counter.

CM – Jordan Henderson

Henderson was one of Liverpool’s most improved and most consistent players last season. His versatility makes him a good option to have in the middle.

CM – Steven Gerrard

Gerrard will be determined to start this season positively after he narrowly missed out on lifting the Premier League title last time round.

AM – Philippe Coutinho

Coutinho is arguably Liverpool’s most intelligent player in attack. The aim will be to get him in possession as frequently and as quickly as possible.

LM – Lazar Markovic

The winger should start over on the left hand side following his £20 million move from Benfica. He looks like a real talent and he could be an important player throughout the campaign.

ST – Daniel Sturridge

Sturridge is now the main man up front and he should thrive on that extra responsibility.
