Mourinho marvels at Costa after studying Spaniard, also appraises Cesc

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is chuffed with his signings Diego Costa and Francesc Fabregas.

In the photograph above, Francesc Fabregas can be seen jumping into the arms of Diego Costa, who had just scored against Olimpia Liubliana last week.

Considering the creativity the former possesses and the prolific touch inside the penalty box that the latter enjoys, it may well be a scene replicated many times throughout the season, should the pair - as is expected - forge a productive partnership.

Manager Jose Mourinho knew the level of player he was acquiring when he ratified a combined £62 million deal for the pair, however, judging by the way he has talked since completing the respective transfers, even Mou may feel they are even greater than he first though.

"He is a fantastic player," said the Portuguese coach who thinks it is easy to praise the player for his physical attributes, but his technical ability is also on point. "Technically he is very, very good. That’s why, lots of the players, they are so happy and so surprised, because his quality is even higher than what they expect.

"He is so strong physically and he gives so much effort during matches. When somebody sees him play, the first thing that gets into their eyes is exactly that, the capacity to work hard for the team, and to be so powerful and so strong physically."

On Fabregas, Mourinho said: "I see him as somebody who thinks football faster than the majority of the players. He is the kind of player we need in our midfield to bring us to a different dimension.

"The ball possession, the speed of the circulation, the decisive pass. He has everything."
