According to Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Serie A champions Juventus are on the verge of signing Verona midfielder Romulo – a deal which could help Manchester United land the £50milllion-rated Arturo Vidal.
Romulo, a Brazilian-born Italian star, has been a target for the Old Lady for much of the summer and a deal is expected to be concluded before club’s Asian tour on August 3rd.
“The soap opera is about to end, Romulo is set to join Juventus. The player's agent is expected in Italy tomorrow to settle some variables with Verona, then the official announcement for the transfer is expected.” The report claims.
One of Romulo’s strengths is his versatility in positions and his defensive work, though he is also comfortable going forward – netting six goals in 32 appearances last term.
Whilst not a complete all-round midfielder like Arturo Vidal, the Brazilian's attributes are similar and it leaves one to suggest that he could be an ideal replacement and pave the way for the Vidal's big-money move to England.
The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United and speculation has been growing over the past few days that the Premier League club are ready to smash their transfer record.
According to a report in Chile, the Juve star has a verbal agreement to join the Red Devils whilst club teammate Giovinco’s agent Andrea D’Amico stated last night that he is convinced the Chilean international will leave the club.
United lack goals from deeper positions and they are still keen to bolster their midfield ranks despite the big-money signing of Ander Herrera from La Liga outfit Athletic Bilbao.
Vidal would undoubtedly be an excellent choice, and his impressive 11 goals and five assists during Juventus’ Serie A winning campaign last year is exactly the sort of return desperately needed at Old Trafford.
Should Manchester United go all out for Arturo Vidal?
