Reports today have indicated that Manchester United have reignited their interest in Borussia Dortmund centre back Mats Hummels, who the Old Trafford hope can provide added strength to the three-man defence that manager Louis van Gaal has been experimenting with during pre-season.
The Bundesliga team are also having to fend off interest from Barcelona, who have drawn up a shortlist of defensive candidates to target in the summer transfer window.
German football expert Jan Aage Fjortoft got in contact with BVB to ask for an update regarding the Hummels situation.
He said on Twitter: "[I] talked with a representative at Borussia Dortrmund this afternoon about Hummels going. [They] quote 'it's not true' -a s they've said before."
While United have already signed Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera this summer, van Gaal is alleged to still desire Hummels and Arturo Vidal, of Juventus. However, neither player appears closer to a deal with the club than they did last month.
Just yesterday, Juve chief Beppe Marotta reiterated the club's stance on the speculation linking Vidal with a big-money move to the Premier League.
