Roberto Martinez could manage Barcelona, says ex-Everton loanee Deulofeu

After spending last season on loan at Everton, Barcelona's Gerard Deulofeu believes Toffees boss Roberto Martinez has what it takes to manage the La Liga side.

Former Everton loanee Gerard Deulofeu believes Roberto Martinez is good enough to manage his current club Barcelona.

Deulofeu spent last season on loan at Goodison Park under Martinez, scoring three goals in 25 Premier League games to help the side to a fifth-place finish and Europa League qualification.

Earning a call-up to Spain’s pre-World Cup camp on the back of his performances, before making his international debut against Bolivia, the versatile forward is now back at Barca as he bids to break into the first-team, believing the tutelage he received from his fellow Spaniard to have been vital towards achieving that goal.

‘I had one lovely season with him, which was a great experience. He helped me a lot,’ the 20-year-old told Sky Sports.

‘If one day he came to Barcelona, he would be more than welcome. It would be very good for him.’

A product of Barca’s famed La Masia, Deulofeu made his La Liga bow for the club in October 2011, before going on to net 18 times in 33 appearances for the B side during the 2012-13 season.

Signing a new contract at the Nou Camp until 2017 last summer, the promising attacker is now confident that, after his successful stint with the Toffees, the 2014-15 campaign will be the one in which he makes the breakthrough with the Catalan giants.

‘I don't think it is a particularly difficult season (to break through),’ he said.

‘I believe in myself. I am very enthusiastic and I am going to try as hard as I can to show everybody that I can play for the first team.’
