Versatile forward Joel Campbell, 22, showed great promise during his one-year loan spell with Olympiacos in the Greek Super League last season and underlined his star potential even further with five commendable appearances at the World Cup tournament in Brazil where he returned one assist and one goal from five shots.
Campbell is now fully ingratiating himself into the Arsenal senior selection as he was one of the 20 players manager Arsene Wenger selected for the USA tour last week before journeying to Bad Waltersdorf where the Gunners take up their customary off-season training base in Austria.
Wenger has attracted polarising opinions over his reported decision to offer primary striker Olivier Giroud an extended contract in what could be construed a vote of confidence as the French coach seemingly refuses to enter the transfer market for adequate cover in this position.
However, could his confidence in his striking options come down to the fact that Campbell is waiting in the wings? Yaya Sanogo would act as back-up to Giroud, yet Campbell can play as a centre forward, on the wings, behind the front-man and even on right midfield.
Judging from his ability to mug off defender Nacho Monreal in training, it is easy to see where Wenger's confidence may come from as Costa Rican Campbell shows off his gifted trickery with the ball at his feet.
