Spurs fans react on Twitter to Rose's new five-year deal: 'Give him a chance!'

Tottenham's decision to sign left back Danny Rose to a bumper long-term contract has been met with mixed reaction on Twitter.

Spurs have awarded a new five-year contract to 24-year-old left back Danny Rose.

The ex Leeds graduate has made 59 appearances for the club since joining from Elland Road as a promising winger. He has also scored 3 goals while in North London, most notably a legendary volley from distance against Arsenal on his full Premier League debut.

Last season was his most productive campaign at White Hart Lane, with Rose making 28 appearances across all competitions. He has also been heavily capped at Under-21 level for England, having featured 29 times.

Mauricio Pochettino was quick to highlight that he saw the club's signing of Welshman Ben Davies from Swansea as a way to put pressure on the former Sunderland loanee, rather than an effort to replace Rose.

“Ben Davies is important for us because he’s good competition for Danny Rose on the left side,” the Argentine told the Spurs website. “He’s a young player but he has good experience in the Premier League.”

The club's decision to award a long term deal to a player often highlighted as a weak link in the Spurs defence last year drew mixed reactions from Tottenham fans on Twitter.

Though some were disappointed at such a decision, others urged the Spurs faithful to get behind a player still young enough to make some serious headway under their new manager.
