Popular boxer Tony Bellew welcomes Romelu Lukaku to Everton

Scouse favourite Tony Bellew was excited by the latest Everton transfer news and new recruit Romelu Lukaku was swift to respond.

It has been a good month for 31-year-old cruiserweight boxer Tony Bellew (22-2-1, 14ko).

The popular Scouser dispatched of experienced 200-pounder Julio Cesar dos Santos at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on July 12, edging him closer to a grudge rematch against fellow Brit Nathan Cleverly in a dust-up that will propel the winner into world title contention - perhaps against WBO don Marco Huck.

Just weeks later, Bellew - who wears the Everton badge on his shorts - would be celebrating the confirmation of Ross Barkley's contract extension and the acquisition of physically-adept goalscorer Romelu Lukaku, who last night transferred from Chelsea to the Goodison Park club in a £28 million deal on a five year basis.

Bellew was swift to welcome the hulking Belgian to the club on his official Twitter account: "Well it's finally official - welcome home big man," before adding 'Come on you Blues'.

To which Lukaku responded: "Thanks! I hope to see you soon lad!"

Due to his ability to separate an opponent from his senses, hard-punching Bellew - who has operated at world-level with fights against Adonis Stevenson, Isaac Chilemba, Edison Miranda, Nathan Cleverly and Ovill McKenzie - is an attraction at the gate and has even been supported ringside by former Everton boss David Moyes.

Will Lukaku be ringside when Bellew goes to war with Cleverly later this year?
