Nemanja Matic hails the clubs 'perfect' pre-season

Chelsea midfielder, Nemanja Matic, says that the club's pre-season tour of Europe has been the ideal preperation for the start of the competitive season.

Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic has hailed the club’s pre-season as ‘perfect’, as Jose Mourinho’s warm-up for the upcoming Premier League campaign.

The Blues have been touring Europe this summer and Matic has clearly enjoyed getting back into training.

The Serbian became one of Mourinho’s key players after joining the club in January and will now be looking to push on during this campaign and he believes that he has had the ideal preparation to do just that.

“It’s been perfect,” Matic said to Chelsea's official site. “The training sessions have really benefited us as players and we’ve had some tough matches so we are really pleased with how it’s gone.”

Chelsea will take on Werder Bremen on Sunday in the final match of the tour before returning to England to complete their pre-season schedule.

Their European travels have given fans the chance to see new signings such as Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas in action and they have all impressed.

The duo have both managed to open their Chelsea scoring accounts during pre-season and they will be hoping that it is a sign of things to come.

The tour started with a 1-1 draw against RZ Pellets, before the side beat Olimpija Ljubljana 2-1 and were victorious over Vitesse Arnhem in their most recent fixture.

In the 3-1 win against the Dutch side Matic scored his first Chelsea goal and he says he is delighted to get off the mark during pre-season.

“It’s always nice to score, it was my first goal in a Chelsea shirt and I’m really happy about that,” he said.

“Diego [Costa] gave me a great ball and luckily for me there was nobody in the goal so it was an easy finish.

“I just try to give my best and help the team, it doesn’t matter about individual performances, all that matters is that Chelsea keep winning matches.”

Chelsea will be expected to put up a serious challenge for the Premier League title this season and go into it as the bookies’ favourites.

It is a lot of pressure for the squad to deal with, but they have enough quality and experience to do so and by the sounds of things their pre-season has been the ideal start to the new campaign.
