Tottenham are reportedly close to securing the signing of Eric Dier from Sporting Lisbon and a £4 million deal could be confirmed by the end of the week.
Spurs look set to add their third signing of the summer with Sporting Lisbon defender close to securing a £4 million switch to White Hart Lane, according to reports from Portuguese publication Mais Futebol.
Newcastle, Everton and West Ham have shown an interest in the 20-year-old Englishman but Tottenham look to have won the race for the centre-back who can also play in midfield.
Pochettino has already brought in Michel Vorm and Ben Davies from Swansea, and Dier will further strengthen the Tottenham defence ahead of the new campaign.
The young defender has lived in Portugal since he was 10-years-old and joined Sporting Lisbon four years ago, despite interest from Spurs, Arsenal and Manchester United at the time.
Though the Lilywhites have clearly kept tabs on him, and the North London club are expected to announce the signing by the weekend, as long as the final stages of negotiations progress well.
Dier has been in the Sporting first-team for the past two seasons but has struggled to nail down a regular starting place, making just 26 league appearances in the past two campaigns.
A move to Spurs would not guarantee him first-team football on a regular basis in the Premier League, but the young defender would certainly be an important part of the squad as Pochettino will have four competitions to focus on.
The Sporting youngster's only experience of football in England came in 2011, when he joined Everton on loan but he was unable to force his way into David Moyes' first-team plans as a 17-year-old.
Tottenham are also hoping that a double deal for Morgan Schneiderlin and Jay Rodriguez can be reached with Southampton before the start of the new campaign, though Dier looks set to be the next arrival at the club.
