La Liga transfer latest: James hopes Falcao joins him at Real Madrid

James Rodriguez playing for Columbia

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from La Liga...

Real Madrid completed the €70m swoop to sign Monaco playmaker James Rodriguez earlier this month, having seen him finish the World Cup as top goalscorer. The Colombian has now revealed that he wants compatriot Radamel Falcao to join him at the Bernabeu amidst speculation of a big money move. Team mates at Porto and Monaco and with the Colombian national team, James says Falcao has the right mentality to play for Carlo Ancelotti's side.

"I’m sure he can play there. But I’m not the one who decides whether or not he’s going. It’s up to the president. It may be because he has quality and a winning attitude. I’ve been playing with him for four years. The only break was when he went to Atletico. He has a winning mentality and that’s what you want at Madrid. Hopefully he can come."

City rivals Atletico Madrid have been busy this summer with the signings of Benfica goalkeeper Jan Oblak, Granada left back Guilherme Siqueira, Real Sociedad winger Antoine Griezmann and Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic. Yet even after the recent €30m capture of Griezmann, manager Diego Simeone could land another wide man.

Reports today suggested that the club had lined up a £21.5m bid to sign Tottenham Hotspur's Erik Lamela. The Argentine struggled to make an impact at White Hart Lane last season, and compatriot Simeone is reportedly looking to rescue the former Roma star from his North London hell.

Elsewhere, Malaga are set to land a replacement for goalkeeper Willy Caballero, who joined Manchester City this summer. Last night, rumours suggested that Mexican World Cup star Guillermo Ochoa was the club's top target, and now the former Club America and Ajaccio man has arrived at La Rosaleda ahead of a free transfer.
