Would this Arsenal and Chelsea-linked £30m striker be the answer to Liverpool's striking problems?

After their move to sign Loic Remy failed, Liverpool still need to sign another striker to replace Luis Suarez.

The Reds have been active in the transfer market this summer, signing Southampton trio Dejan Lovren, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert, as well as Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Emre Can and Benfica winger Lazar Markovic. Divock Origi joined for £10m, but was immediately loaned back to Lille.

Brendan Rodgers has money to spend after the £75m sale of star striker Suarez to Barcelona, and he made a concerted effort to sign QPR's Remy for £8.5m - only for the deal to break down last weekend, reportedly over the French internatonal's wage demands.

That leaves Liverpool still need one more top class striker to help them navigate their way through the Champions League group stage. Swansea's Wilfried Bony has been strongly linked, but a player of a similar mould is Porto's Colombian international Jackson Martinez.

The 27-year-old has been regularly linked with a £30m switch to either Arsenal or Chelsea over the past 12 months, and speculation in Portugal suggests that he may even sign a new contract with Porto given the lack of interest in him this summer. After 60 goals in 91 games for Porto, that seems bizarre - and Liverpool should be the ones to take advantage.

Martinez has everything Rodgers should be looking for - pace, power, aerial ability and clinical finishing. Martinez has the predatory instincts that Liverpool need to really make an impression in the title race and in the Champions League this season, and they could finally offer him a chance at playing in the Premier League.

With time running out before Martinez signs a new contract, Liverpool wouldn't have long to make a move. Yet with his goalscoring record in Portugal and his impressive all-round game, Martinez could be the centre forward are looking for - rather than settling for Remy.
