Everton appear to have secured one of the best pieces of transfer business of the summer today by signing Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea for a fee of around £25 million.
The deal is expected to be confirmed by both clubs later this evening and it is quite a coup for the top-four chasing Toffees.
Lukaku spent last season on loan at Goodison Park and was one of the key players in their excellent campaign under Roberto Martinez.
It was expected that he would go back to Chelsea and fight for a place in their starting line-up, but Everton have managed to do a deal to bring him back to Merseyside on a permanent basis.
It is quite a surprise given Lukaku had previously expressed a desire to play for a Champions League club if he was to move, but it seems he enjoyed his loan spell so much that he opted to move back to the Toffees.
It is reported that the 21-year-old has signed a five-year-deal with Everton and it is something which has disappointed the majority of the Chelsea support on Twitter, who were looking forward to seeing him in action this season.
Lukaku’s talent has never been in question and he remains one of the best young prospects in the world, but he has been demanding first-team football at Chelsea and seems to have aggravated the support and the management at the club, who were happy to let him leave, with his remarks.
The Belgian international was expected to play a secondary role to Diego Costa this season, but will now become the man that Everton build their side around in what looks to be an exciting period of time for the side, after Ross Barkley also committed his future yesterday.
It does seem a little ironic that it was Didier Drogba’s signing - the man who Lukaku has drawn comparisons with throughout his career so far - that was probably the reason Jose Mourinho was happy to part with the striker.
The Portuguese boss clearly feels that Droba and Fernando Torres will provide sufficient cover up-front for the Premier League title hopefuls and that Lukaku will not be too big a loss to his side for the upcoming season as a result.
Some Chelsea fans do not agree, though, and now want the club to sign another striker during the transfer window to compensate for the loss of Lukaku.
Here some of the best tweets from Chelsea fans regarding Lukaku’s departure from the club.
Lukaku's talent is unbelievable but the problem is his mentality, he wants to shine above and be the 1st choice striker... #CFC— Saud CFC (@johnykenny) July 30, 2014

Chelsea to buy Lukaku back for about £100m in a few year's time? Gutted as never got a chance to prove himself #CFC— Matt Davies (@MattDavies31890) July 30, 2014
I wish Lukaku the best and i'll be happy to get the 25 million from Everton, 7 million more than what we bought him for. #CFC— Chelsea FC Bluearmy (@TheRealBluearmy) July 30, 2014
Disappointed with Lukaku leaving without having been given a chance. Does that mean we are going for another forward? #CFC— Daniel (@DGreeny7) July 30, 2014
So we're letting Lukaku go but keeping Torres. Fernando Torres. Sure. #cfc— Nick Calafato (@nickcalafato) July 30, 2014
I will be gutted if Lukaku leaves Chelsea. I will be angry at everyone involved: Lukaku, Mourinho, Emenalo. Everyone involved.— Kelechi Nkwocha (@kaycee4one) July 30, 2014
Gutted that Lukaku is leaving Chelsea. He was never given chance to prove his worth. Hope it is not the same mistake we made with Sturidge.— Hezekiah Mbosowo (@HMbosowo) July 30, 2014
Thinking about it, Mourinho probably always knew Lukaku was off, so brought in Drogba. Costa, Torres, Drogba in that order for the season— TeamCFC (@LampsABlue4ever) July 30, 2014
