Everton have added Muhamed Besic to their squad, but what are the numbers behind his career to date?

Everton recently signed Muhamed Besic from Ferencvaros for a reported £4million.

The Bosnia-Herzegovina international represented his country at this summer’s World Cup, and has since joined up with his Toffees teammates ahead of the new campaign.

In the latest in our series looking at the numbers behind a player’s career to date, we take a closer look at Everton’s new signing.

53 – The number of senior club appearances Besic has made to date. The young defensive midfielder played three times for German side Hamburg (having previously represented their youth and B teams) before turning out 50 times for Ferencvaros.

1 – The number of senior goals he has scored in his career. Granted, that is not in his job description; however he did manage to net once in the Hungarian league prior to his move to Everton.

3 – The number of times Besic has been sent off in his club career. On all three occasions he was dismissed for committing two bookable offences.

16 – The number of bookings he has received. His disciplinary record may be expected – to a degree – given his position on the pitch. However, it is an area that Everton boss Roberto Martinez will want him to improve moving forward.

11 – The number of caps Besic has for his national team. He made his senior debut in November 2010. He has also represented Bosnia-Herzegovina’s under-21 side on 10 occasions, scoring twice in that time.

0 – The number of matches the player has missed due to injury. He may only be 21, but that is still an impressive record and one he will be hoping to maintain now he has switched to the Premier League.

Verdict – Besic may be young but Martinez has shown that if you are good enough you are old enough. With a World Cup campaign already under his belt, and with the ability to also play as a centre-back, big things are expected of Everton’s new recruit.

For the money they reportedly paid for him, they may have secured a bargain.
