Reported Arsenal target Iker Casillas was made Real Madrid captain for their pre-season game against AS Roma.
Carlo Ancelotti may well have played his hand in relation to goalkeeper Iker Casillas, making the Spaniard captain for last night’s friendly game against AS Roma.
Speculation continues to roll on linking Casillas with a move to Arsenal, with some sources suggesting the Gunners have already made him a long term contract offer.
However, rumblings from within the Spanish press have suggested that Diego Lopez will be the man to make way should Keylor Navas complete his move from Levante this summer.
Casillas is one of the most experienced players in the current Real Madrid squad and it makes sense for Ancelotti to try and keep him ahead of a very important season for the club.
The captaincy is a job that Casillas has done before and despite the fact Real Madrid slipped to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Roma, it could be a signing of Ancelotti’s thinking ahead of the difficult situation he’d face with three decent goalkeepers in his squad.
