Liverpool transfer news, Rodgers wants another striker, Origi on Mignolet influence

A selection of the latest stories involving Liverpool Football Club this Wednesday morning.

Liverpool are still in the hunt for another striker according to the Liverpool Echo despite confirming the signing of 19-year-old Divock Origi from Lille yesterday.

The Reds' deal for Loic Remy from Queens Park Rangers fell through, reportedly because of issues surrounding the Frenchman's medical, leaving the club a striker light with the new campaign a couple of weeks away.

Origi - who has been sent back to Lille on loan for the 2014/15 season - has been explaining how much of an influence Simon Mignolet had on his decision to sign for Liverpool.

He's quoted, saying: “He was only positive, and it was great to be able to talk with him about Liverpool.

“I just asked how the club is, the environment and the people. He told me everything was good about the club. He didn't have a bad word to say.

“Mignolet is a very friendly person. He always helps me, even with the national team. He'll be important for me.”

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has been talking about the strategy behind the club's transfers so far.

Six players have arrived at Anfield during the summer in Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Emre Can, Lazar Markovic, Dejan Lovren and Divock Origi, with the promise of more to come.

Rodgers said that improving the depth of the squad was important as they held conversations last season.

He's quoted by the club's website, saying: "Clearly we weren't strong enough last year in terms of depth, numbers and quality. We had always earmarked in the summer to bring in a number of players, in the hope that we would be in the Champions League.

"That would give us the opportunity to challenge on all fronts. The players that we're bringing in have clear profiles in terms of where we want them to play and what their role is.

"There's no doubt we will look where we can, and if we can, to bring in another striker."
