Over 4.6 millions players downloaded and played the recent Destiny beta, as announced by Activision and Bungie today. Beginning on PS3 and PS4 on 17th July, and then eventually being available on Xbox 360 and Xbox One last week, the beta pulled in exactly ‘4,638,937 unique players’.
Activision Publishing CEO, Eric Hirshberg said;
“This is the biggest beta of this console generation by a wide margin and the largest console beta ever for a new video game IP to date. “Hosting a beta at this scale is an incredible feat, so we’re thrilled to see the phenomenal response. But the beta is just a taste of what’s to come. We’re counting down the days to our launch day, September 9th.”
COO of Bungie, Pete Parsons also commented;
“We were totally blown away by the number of people who played the beta. “We surpassed even our own goals and the feedback was invaluable. We cannot thank the community enough, the response was humbling and in the weeks ahead we’ll be working hard to ensure that Destiny lives up to the expectations at launch.”
So, the beta was a success according to the publisher and devs. Certainly with that many players testing out the game Bungie would have gathered plenty of valuable data to fine tune the game before it’s release. I got the chance to try the beta out myself, and you can read the play-by-play of my experience over here.
Destiny is due for release on 9th September for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
