Chelsea transfer news and views including reported bid for another Atletico Madrid star, a goal for former Arsenal star and latest on Everton-bound Lukaku.
The biggest news from a Chelsea perspective today is not the imminent exit of Romelu Lukaku to Everton in a £23.7 million deal, as reported by the BBC, but an apparent bid (£20 million) for Atletico Madrid defender Joao Miranda which is just shy of the required sum that effectively releases the 29-year-old from his contract (£25 million).
Miranda's future at Vicente Calderon is "unclear", as per an article by MARCA, and Jose Mourinho is eager for the Brazilian to join his former Atleti team-mates Diego Costa and Filipe Luis, both of whom transferred to Stamford Bridge earlier in the summer.
A data study produced by HITC: Sport indicates that the player compares favourably to Nemanja Vidic and John Terry's statistics accumulated in the 2013-14 Premier League season and highlights that the defender played a significant part in his club's rigidity at the back.
Atletico themselves target three more signings and the sale of Miranda could be fundamental to their ability to land some of their desired targets, like the €20 million rated Santi Cazorla, at Arsenal.
However, one player seemingly on their shortlist is no longer on the radar, with AS claiming that the club have "officially ruled out" the prospect of bringing Fernando Torres back.
The BBC claim that Lukaku is "close" to leaving Chelsea in order to re-join Everton, for whom he spent one year on loan. Lukaku tweeted earlier: "Time to write a new chapter."
And finally, the Chelsea first team took on Vitesse Arnham today and got off to a bright start. Here is a clip of Francesc Fabregas returning a sweetly struck free kick for his new club…
