'Who needs Carroll?' - West Ham fans react to Enner Valencia signing

Upton Park

West Ham United fans are delighted to welcome Enner Valencia to Upton Park this season, after his move was confirmed on Tuesday.

Enner Valencia’s £12million move to West Ham United was confirmed today and the reaction from supporters of the London club on Twitter was largely positive.

The first chance that most Hammers fans would have got to see Valencia in action would have been at the World Cup, where he played a starring role for Ecuador.

The powerful front-man scored three times in the South American nation's World Cup campaign and hugely impressed during the competition.

His performances undoubtedly inflated his price-tag, but most Hammers supporters are still delighted with the acquisition they have been able to make.

It is easy to see why, too. Although it was his international form is what raised his reputation, his club form is equally as impressive.

The 25-year-old scored 18 times in 23 games for Mexican side Pachuca last season and if he can recreate that sort of tally in England then he will prove well worth the money.

One thing which stands him in good stead is his physicality. Valencia should have no problems adapting to the tempo of the English game, as many players do when first playing in the Premier League, due to his own pace and physicality.

A powerful front-man with a great leap, he should fit in well with West Ham’s direct style of football and provide a potent outlet up-front.

He will be in competition with the likes of Mauro Zarate, Andy Carroll and Carlton Cole for a starting place up-front for the Hammers, but looks set to start the season as their first choice attacker.

And the news of his transfer has been greeted with anticipation from Hammers fans, who are excited to see their new, big-money buy in action next season.

Here are some of the best tweets put on from West Ham fans on Valencia’s deal.
