Serie A transfer latest: Boost for United as Juventus near deal for possible Vidal replacement

AC Milan

All the latest summer transfer news from Serie A...

The speculation over Arturo Vidal's future continues. The Juventus star, 27, has established himself as one of the top midfielders in Europe since his switch from Bayer Leverkusen, and now speculation in his native Chile suggests that a deal to sell Vidal to Manchester United could be close after a protracted transfer saga.

Juventus could be set to add more fuel to that particular fire, given that they're closing in on a deal to sign Verona midfielder Romulo. The Brazilian-turned-Italian impressed last season and almost made the Italy squad for this summer's World Cup, and could be Vidal's eventual replacement given that Juventus are already well stocked in midfield with Andrea Pirlo, Paul Pogba and Claudio Marchisio vying for places.

Elsewhere, AC Milan are still in the hunt for new players. Manager Pippo Inzaghi has already landed Paris Saint-Germain duo Alex and Jeremy Menez, but still wants to sign another winger in order to boost his attacking options. Deals for Juan Iturbe and Antoine Griezmann fell through, leaving Inzaghi to look for alternatives.

Earlier this week it was Manchester United winger Nani linked with a move to the San Siro, yet today it's another Premier League wide man tipped to be targeted by Milan. Newcastle's Hatem Ben Arfa has found himself on the sidelines after a bust-up with Magpies boss Alan Pardew, and certainly seems set for the exit this summer - with Milan hoping to land a bargain.

Finally, Roma beat city rivals Lazio to the signing of Cagliari centre back Davide Astori last week, and tried to beat their great enemies to another defender in Stefan de Vrij. The Dutch World Cup star, who attracted interest from Manchester United, arrived in Rome today to finalise his move to Lazio - although Roma director of football Walter Sabatini reportedly called Feyenoord on Monday to try and steal another player from under Lazio's noses, only for the 22-year-old to stick with his original decision and join Lazio.
