A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United…
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has been speaking about his current squad and the prospect of new arrivals.
In quotes published by the BBC, the Dutchman said, “I don’t buy players for buying players. I buy players to improve my selection.”
Van Gaal’s comments are interesting considering the number of players linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer.
But it is clear that while the manager may be experimenting with those currently at his disposal, the squad is weak in some key areas, most notably in the centre of defence, central midfield and in wide positions.
In other news, Juventus supremo Beppe Marotta has been speaking about reported United target Arturo Vidal.
In quotes published by Tuttosport, Marotta said, “The situation of Vidal? We have clear ideas. We renewed his contract last year because we knew he was an important element. He has not changed his mind about staying with us.”
If that is true it could be bad news for United fans who are eager to see the Chilean arrive in England.
But as with so much in the transfer window, anything is possible until it slams shut.
