Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a new full-back, so what should their fans know about him?

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly been offered Sporting Lisbon defender Miguel Lopes this summer.

Reports originating in Portugal and later picked up by the Daily Mail among others claimed the 27-year-old had been offered to Spurs on loan with the possibility of a permanent move in the future.

Tottenham were relatively slow to kick off their summer transfer business, but it now appears in full flow. So if the latest reports regarding Lopes are true, here are five facts about the player who could soon arrive at White Hart Lane:

1) Hugo Miguel Almeida Costa Lopes was born in Portugal in December 1986. He began his youth career at Oriental before ultimately ending up at Benfica in 2005.

2) He moved from Benfica’s youth team to their B team and became something of a journeyman thereafter, playing for Rio Ave, Lyon, Braga, Real Betis Balompie and FC Porto.

3) Predominantly a right-back, Lopes can also play as a left full-back when required, which suggests he could be used as cover for new signing Ben Davies as well as challenging Kyle Walker on the opposite flank.

4) Lopes made his debut for Portugal in 2012 but he has only earned an additional three caps since then. He has however already managed one goal for his country.

5) Lopes has a relatively impressive assist-record, setting up 11 goals in his club career to date. He has also netted three himself in that time.
