Arsenal’s deal for goalkeeper David Ospina has put Wojciech Szczesny under a little bit of pressure.
The Pole will more than likely start the season as the club’s number one but Ospina’s performances for Colombia during the World Cup appear to have left a lasting impression on the minds of several Arsenal fans.
In a poll conducted by Goal.com, just 5% of Arsenal fans (at the time of writing) suggested that Szczesny should retain his number one spot ahead of the 25-year-old signing from Nice.
Ospina’s arrival is a terrific signing by Arsene Wenger because he got great value for money with a reported fee of around £3 million and the club have two top quality goalkeepers for next season.
There could well have been an element of complacency creeping into Szczesny’s mindset as he recently admitted that he missed the competition for the number one spot at the club.
Not only will Ospina ensure that competitive element between the pair of them, he could end up making Szczesny a more consistent and effective goalkeeper.
