Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on deals to sign Southampton duo Morgan Schneiderlin and Jay Rodriguez, according to a report.
In a transfer window which is turning out to be disastrous for Saints, it looks as if another two of their key stars are set to depart St. Mary’s.
The pair are expected to be a costly investment for Spurs, but the transfers are reportedly nearing completion with Maurico Pochettino unpeturbed by the high price tags.
Pochettino, the former Saints boss, has had a relatively quiet transfer window in charge of the North-London club so far, but may be set to spend big on a reunion with two of the players who excelled under his leadership at Southampton.
Indeed, that is a major reason behind Schneiderlin’s proposed move to Spurs. Arsenal have been interested in signing the French midfielder, who was selected to play at the World Cup for his nation, but he is understood to be keen on linking back of with Pochettino at White Hart Lane, making Spurs his first choice.
Rodriguez, meanwhile, has been recovering from an injury and linked with Liverpool, but it appears that Spurs have jumped to the front of the queue for his signature.
It would mark quite a rise for the 24-year-old, who has only been playing top tier football for two seasons.
The duo would become the sixth and seventh of Southampton’s key players to leave the south-coast this summer if the report proves to be true - following the departures of Calum Chambers, Dejan Lovren, Adam Lallana, Luke Shaw and Rickie Lambert.
That leaves Saints’ squad desperately short of numbers and they will be relying on their enviable youth-system to produce the talent to keep them in the Premier League for another year.

The Rodriguez info surprised me given he is still out with an ACL injury. Progress going well but #SaintsFC will be asking for big money.— Simon Peach (@SimonPeach) July 28, 2014
Would the Saints duo be good additions for Tottenham?
